Wanted to blog last night but I couldn't get to use the computer so... Haha. Never mind. I blog now loh. =P
Had clinic duties yesterday, with Dr KAREN WANG as my supervisor... Just a brief introduction to this DINOSAUR (obviously a very cute nickname I've given to her =P)... She's the MOST FEARED clinician (to the majority of us) to have as a supervisor cause number one, she is super-dooper strict. Make the slightest blunder and that's it, better pray hard that she doesn't bite you so hard that is painful enough to make you cry. Number two, somehow she doesn't seem to understand that we're supposed to be graded out of a total of 10 marks and NOT 5. In case you didn't get it, the following equation should help you get a clearer picture.
ie. DINOSAUR'S GRADING OF YOU = 0.5 X GRADING OF YOU GIVEN BY OTHER CLINICIAN
(Meaning that if Dinosaur gives you 3/10, any other clinician would have given you a 6/10 for that same case.)
Ya, so if you desperately need a fail grade to repeat another semester for whatever weird reasons, feel free to request for Dinosaur to be your supervisor every clinic session. But I must admit that Dinosaur never fails to impress me with her clinical skills and knowledge. And fortunately, she's always very keen to teach and so I always learn a lot under her supervision. Oopsy, I digress too much. Back to yesterday clinic session with Dinosaur...
I was supposed to see all four patients yesterday (2 needing eye examination and 2 needing contact lens fitting). But FORTUNATELY for ME, who is under Dinosaur's supervision, I only had to see the two patients who are coming for contact lens fitting because the other two couldn't make it and cancelled their appointment! Haha. The best out of the worst scenario, wasn't it? Haha. Even Dinosaur said that I was lucky. Ahahaha! I replied 'YA LOH' with a grin on my face. =P
STILL, no matter circumstance, Dinosaur will ALWAYS be Dinosaur and she gave me a 5/10 and 6/10 for the two fittings. But seriously, I'm already more than happy enough with not getting a fail grade from her. And a 6/10! Okay, she made me fly!
That's all for yesterday's clinic but that's not all. Remember I mentioned about my lecturer arranging for me to meet his ophthalmologist friend? Ya. I went to see him yesterday. Got my eyes dilated and gosh, I couldn't see clearly at near until I woke up today. Haha. Now I finally got a very good idea of how presbyopes feel when they couldn't read without reading addition.
Shucks, my brother wants to use the computer. Never mind, I shall speed things up then. Anyway, my eyes are okay. My optic nerves are not swollen actually. But instead, they appear swollen because of the presence of hyaline materials (a.k.a. drusens) on both optic nerve heads. Yup, I'm spared from any optic nerve dieases and any stupid brain tumour. But still, I have to have my eyes examined annually to make sure that the optic nerve head drusens don't increase because having too much of them will cause significant visual losses. Luckily it's not significant for now. Also, I have to look out for other associated eye diseases that comes with optic nerve head drusens.
Gotta end it here.
Till next time!
Strum to the MUSIC!!
